Cancer – we’re coming for ya….

This is the hardest status report I have ever written. Sandy Edelman and I regret to tell everyone that after extensive testing our little Angelina has been diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. This is a rare type of childhood cancer. We are obviously heartbroken. Angelina is currently at St. Barnabas, and got a central line put in so we can begin an aggressive treatment immediately. We are also working with friends who have additional resources at CHOP and Sloan-Kettinger to see if other treatments are available. Despite the gravity of the situation, our doctors are confident that treatment is possible. Everyone that has messaged us and asked what they can do to help- we are truly touched, blessed and overwhelmed. With the speed of treatment we haven’t had a chance to respond to everyone but we want you to know that we appreciate your wishes, prayers, and offers of help. Our friend,Marcy Felsenfeld, is now making a helping hands website where you can volunteer time, meals, funds and offers other ways to help. We are also setting up an account at the blood bank for those who wish to donate blood. Our other friend, James Topoleski, is also setting up a website where we will be posting updates. We will hopefully have the sites available by Sunday. In the meantime, thank you for your thoughts, and prayers.

    Dearest Edelman/Phillips Family,
You are in good hands on my unit, the St B PICU, and I have told all of my buddies there to give you some extra TLC. We know Angelina is strong and that she will fight for her life! I am so incredibly sorry that she will have to go through the pain and distress that this will inevitably cause her. We are sending thoughts and prayers to all of you and wishing you all strength to get through this as a family. We will look forward to signing up to assist you in whatever ways we can.
